What is Complicated Extraction?

A complicated (surgical) extraction is needed when a tooth cannot be removed with a simple extraction — for example an impacted wisdom tooth that has not fully come out, a tooth broken at the gum line, or a tooth with curved or fused roots. A small opening in the gum and careful sectioning of the tooth may be required.

At Maa Dental Care, every surgical extraction is planned with a digital X-ray so the procedure is precise and as quick as possible. With effective local anesthesia and careful technique, most patients are surprised by how comfortable it is.

When Do You Need This Treatment?

Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth
Repeated pain or swelling around a wisdom tooth
A tooth broken at or below the gum line
Root pieces left behind from an old extraction
Teeth with curved, long or fused roots
A wisdom tooth pushing against the neighbouring tooth

Treatment Process at Maa Dental Care

1
Digital X-Ray & Planning

An X-ray shows the position of the tooth and its roots so the procedure can be planned precisely.

2
Local Anesthesia

The area is numbed completely for a comfortable, pain-free procedure.

3
Surgical Removal

A small opening is made in the gum if needed and the tooth is removed, sometimes in sections, protecting the surrounding bone.

4
Stitches & Aftercare

The area is cleaned and stitched if required, and you receive medicines and detailed aftercare instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that have come out properly and are easy to clean can stay. Removal is advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed or damaging the neighbouring tooth.
How much swelling should I expect?
Some swelling and stiffness for 2-3 days is normal after a surgical extraction. Cold compresses in the first 24 hours and the prescribed medicines help keep it under control.
Will I need stitches?
Sometimes. If stitches are placed, they either dissolve on their own or are removed at a short follow-up visit about a week later.
When can I return to work or college?
Most patients return to their normal routine within 1-2 days. Avoid strenuous exercise for a few days and follow the aftercare instructions carefully.
